After months of helping Western North Carolina families recover from the devastating impacts of Hurricane Helene, Working Wheels is proud to announce that we have secured our final participant for the Hurricane Helene Vehicle Purchase Program. As a result, the program is now closed to new applications.

When the final three participants are matched with vehicles, Working Wheels will have helped 45 Hurricane Helene survivors access reliable transportation through this special initiative.

For many families, the loss of a vehicle after the storm threatened more than mobility—it put employment, medical care, education, and stability at risk. Through the generosity of vehicle donors, funders, community partners, volunteers, and supporters, families across our region have been able to get back on the road and continue rebuilding their lives. This program challenged our team to move quickly, think creatively, and adapt to unprecedented community needs. Along the way, we learned a great deal about disaster response and the critical role transportation plays in long-term recovery.

While this chapter is coming to a close, the need for reliable transportation in Western North Carolina remains. Working Wheels will continue providing affordable vehicles and low-cost repairs to working families through our ongoing Vehicle Purchase and Vehicle Repair Programs. Reliable transportation remains one of the most effective tools for helping families access employment, healthcare, education, and opportunity. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who made this effort possible. Together, we helped ensure that Hurricane Helene survivors could continue moving forward.

Thank you for helping us keep families driving.
